Stickney… now rebuilding!

Watch the progress on the re-designed Stickney page!
This weekend our dads came down to help frame up the basement and get the rough wiring done (not pictured). Since the basement had to be gutted, we made a slight modification – in addition to a guest room and an office, we added a storage room that will hopefully someday be our wine cellar.
Monday morning the electrician came by to make the connections. Framing passed inspection, but the electrical inspector apparently had trouble with the lock box and couldn’t get in – we’ll try that one again tomorrow. Then, Robert can insulate the basement and rock the upstairs and ceiling of the basement. Dennis is coming down this weekend to help rock the basement walls.

Taking a break…

Did a couple of auditions recently, but I have no upcoming shows. The first was for Urinetown with Heritage Theatre Co. I didn’t really expect to get the coveted role of “Bobby Strong,” but I did have a glimmer of “Hope” when I was called back to sing and read for “Officer Lockstock.” Those were the only two roles I put down that I would accept, because I knew that I would also be auditioning for…
Guys and Dolls at Morris Park is another story. I really thought I had an almost certain shot at the role of “Nicely-Nicely Johnson” – I would have also accepted “Nathan Detroit” but I still think I’m too young for that role. But neither of those were in the cards. Frankly, I’m a little confused. Not to sound too much like a diva, but knowing that I have a pretty good relationship with the theatre, the director and the choreographer, and I’d like to think that I’m very qualified for the role… I really thought I had it. It’s not like I can blame this one on needing to lose some weight either – “Nicely” has the running gag of food obsession. A few friends were also rather surprised. Hopefully whoever they did cast is fabulous. If I see the show and their “Nicely” sucks, I’m really going to wonder what happened. Oh well, that leaves more time to work on the Stickney Project

Back online at 17M3

Finally online. And finally, totally out of Marion Street. Taking that last load out of the office was an emotional experience. Early in the week (or was it last week already?), Comcast installed our service. I didn’t have my desk and computer set up yet, so I didn’t get a chance to see if the internet worked. The TV worked, but the big-ass TV had been set up for home theatre, so I had the speakers turned off. You have to have the remote to get into the menu, and that was still at Marion. So, on one of the next trips, we brought the remotes. Then, we had sound, but no picture. So, the next day we called Comcast. Two days later, the cable guy comes at noon (that’s STILL within the 9am-noon window, mind you… ) to tell me that someone had “disco’d” us. No, it had nothing to do with John Travolta. I guess that’s cable guy slang for “disconnected.” My guess is that our install order and Mike’s “disco” order happened in… well, the wrong order. Anyway, it works now. The Mac Pro is happy.

Any thoughts on the iPhone? I’m just disappointed that it is exclusive to Cingular until 2009. I’m not going to pay to get out of my contract. Oh well. I am looking forward to adding an iTV… oops, I mean an TV to my home theatre setup. I suppose that I’ll need one of these too. So many toys, so little time…
